President Dilma inaugurates CeBIT 2012

President Dilma Rousseff inaugurated CeBIT, the largest IT fair in the world, alongside German Chancellor, Angela Merkel today in Hannover, Germany. The two leaders took a tour of Brazil’s main pavilion at the event and also took time to visit the exhibition stands of some major German companies.

During their tour, they also visited the stands of several Brazilian companies, including Embrapa, Padtec, Positivo, Atech, Petrobrás, Embraer, and Totvs.

The German chancellor was particularly interested in learning more about Padtec. Based in Campinas, the company is Latin America’s largest manufacturer of products for optical transmission. “Chancellor Merkel became interested in better understanding the operation of our equipment and even asked to turn off the microphone, because she wanted to know more details of products,” recalls André Guimarães dos Santos, the marketing manager of Padtec.

The Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) was also a focus of attention for the two leaders, with its computerized solutions for the livestock industry. ”We are one of the largest agricultural research and the world’s largest research company in Brazil,” said researcher Luis Barioni. ”And we are in a very interesting position in the area of information technology,” he added.

CeBIT 2012 runs from today until March 10 and this year Brazil is the official partner country of the conference.
